Howard "Buck" McKeon, the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Va., Sept. 12, 2014, during a farewell ceremony for the two congressional leaders, both of whom are stepping down at the end of their terms. Levin was a member of the Senate committee for his entire 36-year career in the Senate and served as its chairman beginning in 2007. McKeon, who took office in 1993, served nearly 20 years on the House committee, including three years as its chairman.
