Aviation Structural Mechanic 1st Class Derek Emter, attached to Helicopter Maritime Squadron (HSM) 35 Detachment 1, shows a student from John F. Kennedy High School’s robotics class the controls of a MH-60R Seahawk helicopter during a ship tour while in port Guam for a brief fuel stop. The HSM 35 aviation detachment aboard littoral combat ship USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) is from the Navy’s first composite expeditionary helicopter squadron and includes one Seahawk helicopter and one MQ-8B Fire Scout unmanned aerial vehicle. Currently on a 16-month rotational deployment in support of the Asia-Pacific Rebalance, Fort Worth is a fast and agile warship tailor-made to patrol the region’s littorals and work hull-to-hull with partner navies, providing 7th Fleet with the flexible capabilities it needs now and in the future.
