Sgt. Maj. Dennis W. Reed and Sgt. Maj. Randall Carter stand outside the ceremonial area of the I Marine Expeditionary Unit complex at Camp Pendleton. Carter took over the post of I MEF and Marine Forces Central Command sergeant major from Reed in a formal relief and appointment ceremony. Carter's previous post was the sergeant major of 1st Marine Division, an assignment he has held since 2007. Reed will continue on his career in Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia.
