Lt. Gen. Raimonds Graube and Defense Minister Raimonds Vejonis lay flowers on the Oskars Kalpaks monument during a ceremony March 6 in Riga, Latvia. The ceremony, which was attended by high-ranking defense officials and military personnel, commemorates the death of Oskars Kalpaks, the first commander of the 1st Latvian Independent Battalion, known as “Kalpaks Battalion.” Kalpaks Battalion stopped the Bolshevik invasion of Latvia.
