Spc. James B. Samson, 16th Sustainment Brigade, waits to be presented an Army Commendation medal in the brigade headquarters at Contingency Operating Base Q-West, Iraq, July 23. Samson worked in the Iraqi security forces cell that oversaw several Logistical Training Assistance Teams at sites around Multi-National Division - North. The 42-year-old from Juba, Sudan, moved to Roanoke, Va., in 1999, and joined the Army Reserve in 2007. In November 2008, Samson became a U.S. citizen during a ceremony at Joint Base Balad. Samson said this deployment has been very positive for him. "In my heart I don't have bad feelings," Samson said. "The best part is the engagements with the locals, how they look at me."
