Ernie Boulet, 502nd Trainer Development Squadron sheet metal shop supervisor, drills the C-17 fuselage, Feb. 11, 2015, as he prepares the aircraft for shipment from Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. About four years ago the C-17 air frame was delivered via flat bed truck to JBSA-Randolph for a conversion into the Air Force’s first C-17 Aeromedical Evacuation Trainer. Now 90 percent complete, the trainer is being disassembled to make a final move to its new home; the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The trainer mimics the look and feel of a real aircraft right down to the interior. A sound system and simulators are used in tandem to replicate airborne anomalies such as smoke and fire. And state of the art avionics enable the trainer to simulate the feeling of flight, particularly take offs and landings. (U.S. Air Force photo by Joel Martinez)
