Fine Art: Plum Beach Light (First Place)

    NEW LONDON, CONNECTICUT, UNITED STATES

    03.14.2014

Photo by Petty Officer 2nd Class Cory Mendenhall

    U.S. Coast Guard Academy

This painting was created with watercolor and depicts the Plum Beach Light, which was constructed in 1899 in Narragansett Bay, R.I. The light was maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard until deactivated in 1941. The light still stands today and is registered by the Coast Guard as a private aid to navigation. The painting's purpose is to represent the beauty and history of New England lighthouses and further the artist's skill with the watercolor medium.
