ATLANTIC OCEAN (May 29, 2015) An F-35B Lightning II departs the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) as Operational Testing Phase One (OT-1) comes to an end. Wasp, with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 121 and VMFAT-501 embarked, conducted the first phase of OT-1, which evaluated the full spectrum of F-35B measures of suitability and effectiveness in an at-sea environment. Data and lessons learned lay the groundwork for F-35B deployments aboard U.S. Navy amphibious assault ships following the Marine Corps' initial operating capability (IOC) declaration in July 2015.
