In this work from the U.S. Coast Guard Art Program 2015 Collection, “Coast Guard Cutter Shamal on Patrol,” ID# 201507, the patrol craft USCGC Shamal (WPC 13) —originally commissioned by the U.S. Navy—is shown on deployment in Sector Key West’s area of responsibility where it conducted search and rescue cases, migrant interdiction and counter-narcotics operations and patrols in support of District Seven. Decommissioned in 2011, the cutter was named for a wind occurring in the Persian Gulf. (U.S. Coast Guard Art Program work by James Consor)
