PL-480 Title II: A government of India child development program officer reviews the records prepared by an Anganwadi worker for her Anganwadi Center in a small village in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Anganwadi workers are the key to the government's Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme, which provides supplementary nutrition, immunizations, health checkups, nutrition and health education, and pre-school education in poor, mostly rural areas of the country. The Anganwadi workers are often illiterate, like most of the people they serve, but must keep as many as 18 registers on attendance, food distributed, and weight of participating children, among other data. This Anganwadi Center is supported with training and USAID PL-480 Title II food provided through CARE-India.
