U.S. NAVAL BASE GUAM (Aug. 27, 2015) – A Naval Base Guam harbor patrol craft navigates in figure eight motions near a simulated suspicious floating object alongside submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) (not pictured). Submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40) is pictured across the harbor. This navigation method creates waves to push the object away from the ship. The simulated threat response was conducted as part of CITADEL Pacific, a week-long drill period. CITADEL Pacific practiced implementing base-wide response protocols to simulated acts of aggression. These exercises maintain proficiency in executing anti-terrorism and force protection measures. Emory S. Land is a forward deployed expeditionary submarine tender on an extended deployment conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility.
