Floyd Moon, a 62-year-old rural adviser from Colorado, has been helping the people of Kenya's Coast Province grow more food. With funds furnished by the Agency for International Development he has installed pumps in several villages on the Tana River to provide irrigation for rice and vegetable fields. The isolated farmers now not only are able to harvest two crops a year and feed themselves, but have been able to sell part for cash. Moon also has introduced beekeeping to the province. This has resulted in greater pollination of cashew, mango, sunflower and other plants, increasing the yields of these crops.
