River transportation was improved in Mali where AID funds were used to buy motors and spare parts for boats operating at Mopti. River transport is important in supplying northern Mali with foodgrains, petroleum and other critical supplies. The importance of river transport in Mali was underscored when the movement of relief commodities to drought victims was slowed by equipment breakdowns.
