151018-N-TE278-187 WATERS SOUTH OF JAPAN (Oct. 18, 2015) Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, center, approaches rainbow sideboys upon arrival aboard the U.S. Navy's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). During the visit, Abe and other Japanese dignitaries met with senior U.S. Navy representatives including Vice Adm. Nora Tyson, commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet, Rear Adm. Matthew Carter, commander, U.S. Naval Forces Japan, Rear Adm. John Alexander, commander, Battle Force 7th Fleet, and Capt. Chris Bolt, Ronald Reagan's commanding officer. Ronald Reagan and its embarked air wing, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, provide a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
