Of the 25 known ziggurats found in Iraq and Iran, the ziggurat of Ur, located near the modern city of Nasiriyah, Iraq, is the best preserved. It was restored in the 6th century B.C., by King Nabonidus, last king of the Neo-Babylonian Empire.
