Sharon Featherstone, United States Charge' d' Affaires to Belize, shakes hands with Sgt. Daniel Newman of Security Cooperation Marine Air Ground Task Force during the ceremony marking the turnover of approximately 39,000 pounds of textbooks, medical supplies, first aid, hygiene products, back packs filled with school supplies, teddy bears, and a toy pallet to the government of Belize and various non-governmental organizations, Nov. 24, in Belize City, Belize. The supplies were transported and delivered by USS Wasp as part of Project Handclasp, a program in which educational, humanitarian and goodwill material are transported overseas on a space-available basis in U.S. Navy ships. Wasp is currently deployed on Southern Partnership Station-Amphib with Destroyer Squadron 40 and embarked SCMAGTF. Southern Partnership Station is part of the Partnership of the Americas Maritime Strategy that focuses on building interoperability and cooperation in the region to meet common challenges.
