Col. Bruce Crandall speaks to cadets and midshipmen at the American Veterans Center's 18th Annual Veterans Conference in Washington, Nov. 7, 2015. On Nov. 14, 1965, Crandall flew 22 missions "through Hell" in an unarmed UH-1 Huey helicopter and extracted 70 wounded Soldiers while resupplying troops with needed ammunition during the battle of la Drang Valley, Vietnam. "In 14 and a half hours, we carried in ammo and brought Soldiers out," Crandall said. "One of the guys that we took out is a Medal of Honor recipient Joe Marm. I wouldn’t have missed this for anything because the 50th anniversary on the 14th there will still be a lot of guys that will still owe me a parking place in their driveways." Crandall was decorated with the Medal of Honor by President George W. Bush at the White House Feb. 27, 2007. (U.S. Army Photo by Public Affairs Officer Maj. Kyle Key/Released)
