Guadalupe “Lupe” Lopez was a native Arizonan who served with the 158th Bushmasters from Jan. 27, 1941, to Jun. 17, 1945. Lopez was awarded the Silver Star for heroic actions by rescuing wounded service members from the field of battle on Jan. 14, 1945. To the Bushmasters this date became known as “Bloody Sunday” and was the largest number of casualties sustained by the 158th in any battle during the regiment’s history.
