Staff Sgt. Jason R. Moore, drop zone commander, logistics operations section, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, scans the winter night sky for the heat signature of an approaching airplane through his thermal monocular before radioing clearance to deliver 40 palletized supply bundles by parachute near Forward Operating Base Geronimo Dec. 27. Air drops like these are conducted about four nights each week and provide the battalion with food, water and building materials. Moore, 30, is from Redding, Calif.
