Staff Sgt. Joshua M. Cardona, drill instructor, Receiving Company, Support Battalion, instructs a new recruit to move faster during receiving at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Jan. 19. Recruits are required to follow all instructions from drill instructors through the course of training. In the following week of receiving, they will conduct an initial strength test, undergo medical screenings and immunizations and learn the basic rules of recruit training. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Mike Company is scheduled to graduate April 15.
