New recruits of Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, stand at attention during receiving at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Jan. 19. The position of attention is one of the first things recruits learn when they get off the bus and step onto the yellow footprints. They are instructed to keep their arms to their sides, their thumbs on their trousers seams, their heels together and their head and eyes straight to the front. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Mike Company is scheduled to graduate April 15.
