SASEBO, Japan (Jan. 27, 2016) Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Capt. Tokuetsu Ishibashi, JMSDF Sasebo District Operations and Plans Department director, speaks at a ribbon-cutting ceremony held at CFA Sasebo's Tategami Pier, Jan. 27, 2016. The ceremony was held for the completion of a fiber-optic cable extension that would allow Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force vessels to participate in U.S. Fleet Synthetic Training. The training allows ships to simulate scenarios at sea while pierside, saving the operational cost of putting ships to sea. JMSDF Towada-class replenishment ship JS Hamana (AOE 424) is pierside.
