Discarded soda cans and a paint can lie along the western bank of the Tigris River near the Al-Qayyarah pump house Dec. 30, 2009. One of the things that impresses Ali Kaif Hussein, manager of the pump house, about U.S. Army forces with whom he works is their cleanliness, he said Dec. 30, 2009. "Before the U.S. Soldiers leave, they always clean up the area," he said through an interpreter. "They do not leave their trash behind, even the cigarette butts. I think this is a very good practice. It keeps away trash and disease and it helps with security, making it harder for insurgents to know their habits," said Hussein, a former captain in the Iraqi army.
