U.S. Navy Lt. Jacquelyn Proulx, a dentist assigned to Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island, performs a dental procedure on a recruit Feb. 11, 2016. Proulx said that of the recruits she treats, approximately 1/3 report to using chewing tobacco prior to arriving at MCRD and half of those say they plan to continue when they leave recruit training. As part of their exam Proulx informs recruits about the dangers of using tobacco products and the resources available to them to help them quit.
