PACIFIC OCEAN (Feb. 14, 2016) – U.S. Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Carroll Williams, a lay leader attached to the USS New Orleans, preaches during a Church of Christ service aboard the USS New Orleans, At Sea, Feb. 14, 2016. Because there is no chaplain specializing in ministry for the Church of Christ aboard USS New Orleans, Williams became a certified lay leader in order to provide the worship service for Marines and Sailors of that faith. More than 4,500 Marines and Sailors with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Boxer Amphibious Ready Group are transiting the Pacific Ocean en route to the Pacific and Central command areas of operations.
