Utilizing a poster of surveying rod readings, Darren Richardson, the United States Department of Agriculture advisor for the Farah Provincial Reconstruction Team and periodic instructor at the Farah Agricultural and Veterinary Science High School and Institute, teaches an applied Math class for 27 students, Jan. 12, Farah, Afghanistan. The students actually collected all the rod readings on the poster during a hands-on training class for surveying equipment that Richardson taught back in October 2009, in a field near the campus. This lesson is the follow-up session to teach the students how to analyze those readings to understand the slope or grade of the field in preparation for leveling it.
