A water purification system that was used during World War II lies preserved in an underground tunnel March 20 on Iwo To, Japan. This water purification system was used to filter spring water to provide fresh water to Japanese Imperial forces during the Battle of Iwo Jima. Many areas of the tunnels are too dangerous to explore because of cave-ins and unexploded ordnance. (Marine Corps Photo by Cpl. Douglas D. Simons/Released)
