SASEBO, Japan (Apr. 19, 2016) Amphibious assualt ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), moored at Commander, U.S. Fleet Activities Sasebo as seen from the base's Gust Spart and U.S. Marine Barracks memorial area. The cannon is from the Sino-Japanese War and is one of several century-old pieces around base. Bonhomme Richard is the lead ship of the Bonhomme Richard Amphibious Ready Group and is forward-deployed in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operation. CFAS enables 13 forward-deployed Naval forces and 26 tenant commands across 11 geographic locations, supporting a community of 7,000 Sailors, civilians, and family members. It has received awards for Safety, Environmental, Zumwalt Lodging, Golden Anchor, Food Service, and the 2015 Region Japan Installation of the Year.
