Chief Petty Officer Edwin Brannan, the leading chief petty officer for the Marine Aircraft Group 40 casualty evacuation team, Marine Expeditionary Brigade-Afghanistan, reads the citation of a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal awarded to Seaman Kyle Peterson, a CASEVAC corpsman with MAG-40, for his performance during an air casualty evacuation of two wounded Marines, Aug. 7. During his initial medical assessment of a double amputee patient, Peterson noticed that one tourniquet was loose and the Marine was quickly bleeding to death. Peterson stopped further blood loss by tightening the tourniquet and allowed the patient to reach the next echelon of medical care.
