BEALETON, Virginia (May 25, 2016) Fritz Langford, right, with Aurora Flight Sciences, talks to retired Brig. Gen. Frank Kelly, deputy assistant secretary of the Navy for unmanned systems, about plans for the Office of Naval Research-funded Autonomous Aerial Cargo/Utility System (AACUS)-enabled UH-1 helicopter, following an integrated flight testing demonstration of the AACUS system currently installed on a Bell 206 helicopter. The AACUS program is developing an innovative capability that when installed in existing rotary-wing aircraft enables autonomous obstacle avoidance, approaches, landings and takeoffs to and from unprepared landing sites.
