160530-N-VQ947-016 YOKOSUKA, Japan (May 30, 2016) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Airman (AW) Shiloh Marvin, from Orrington, Maine, catches the national ensign as Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Airman (AW) Allen Ferreria, from Kent, Washington, lowers the flag during evening colors on the flight deck of the Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). A catcher ensures the flag never touches the deck, in accordance with U.S. Code 176, which states “no disrespect should be shown to the flag…The flag should never touch anything beneath it such as the ground, the floor, water or merchandise.” Ronald Reagan provides a combat-ready force, which protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
