160615-N-BB534-061 DILI, Timor Leste (June 15, 2016) Jim Schermerhorn, a Project Hope volunteer and a native of Truro, Massachusetts, discusses basic first responder skills with members of the Timor Leste army during Pacific Partnership 2016 subject matter expert exchange. During the exchange participants practiced injury triage, infection prevention and patient transportation. This year marks the sixth time the mission has visited Timor Leste since its first visit in 2006. Medical, engineering and various other personnel embarked aboard hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) are working side-by-side with partner nation counterparts, exchanging ideas, building best practices and relationships to ensure preparedness should disaster strike.
