ATLANTIC OCEAN (June 24, 2016) Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Handling) 3rd Class Kevin Mitchell, from San Antonio, observes an F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 23 perform a touch-and-go on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73). VX-23 is conducting tests of the Maritime Augmented Guidance with Integrated Controls for Carrier Approach and Recovery Precision Enabling Technologies (MAGIC CARPET), which will provide improved safety, efficiency and success rates in recovering fixed-wing aircraft on board aircraft carriers.
