Just a week after being knocked unconscious by a blast from in improvised explosive device, Cpl. Jason Ducote, a squad leader with 3rd Platoon, India Company, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, is recovering at Camp Leatherneck?s Wounded Warrior Detachment, and looks forward to returning to his men. While leading a patrol in northern Marjah, May 4, the Reidsville, N.C., native found himself just inches away from an improvised explosive device. In an instant, Ducote threw a fellow Marine in a ditch and out of harm's way, and without disregard for his own welfare, got back up, yelling to his Marines to fall back, when the IED exploded.
