Maj. Jason Powell, 12th Flying Training Wing chief of flight safety, aims an air pellet rifle at a white-winged dove on Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph July 13, 2016. The white-winged dove is the top threat among the bird population on JBSA-Randolph due to its tendency to fly in flocks at the same altitude as aircraft on the runway. A bird as small as 4 ounces can cause an aircraft to lose an engine.
