Rear Adm. Jeffrey A. Harley, president, U.S. Naval War College (NWC) in Newport, Rhode Island, addresses students, faculty, staff, and guests during a convocation ceremony kicking off the 2016-2017 academic year. The class of 2017 is made up of 560 resident joint military, civilian, and international students representing 50 nations. After their completion of NWC’s 10-month Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) programs, students earn JPME credit and either a NWC diploma or a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies or Defense and Strategic Studies.
