The Garrison Flag hanging over the Pentagon after the 9/11 attack, October 11, 2001. Today, the flag’s condition is as it was when it was retired. Never cleaned it is still soot-stained and has a small rip in one area. The flag resides in the care of the Army’s Center of Military History and serves as a revered symbol of American pride, ideals and resolve in the face of adversity. (Courtesy photo)
