Lt. Giuliana Vellucci, a native of Fairfax, Va., is assigned to USS Philippine Sea homported in Mayport, Fla. The ship, which recently completed an extensive overhaul of the combat and engineering control systems, attended Fleet Week New York before continuing to make preparation for an upcoming Arabian Gulf deployment to defend against those who would threaten our nation's interests. Vellucci, who is the ship's navigator, is the daughter of Anthony and Linda Vellucci of Fairfax, attended Robinson Secondary School and Villanova University. "This has been a really unique and fantastic experience," said Vellucci. "The people of New York City have been so appreciative." Approximately 3,000 Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsman are participating in the 23rd Fleet Week New York, which is taking place through June 2. Fleet Week has been New York City's celebration of the sea services since 1984.
