Navy Lt. j.g. Warren Woods, right, is congratulated by Petty Officer 1st Class Rodney Hopes, Navy counselor, after Woods was awarded a Purple Heart medal during a Memorial Day ceremony at the Navy Operational Support Center San Antonio. Woods was severely wounded in 1945 during the Battle of Mindanao in the Philippines while assigned as a gunfire liaison officer to the 295th Joint Assault Signal Company. A clerical error kept Woods from receiving the medal.
