PACIFIC OCEAN (September 16, 2016) – Commander, Naval Surface Forces Vice Adm. Thomas S. Rowden, center, helps newly pinned chief petty officers cut a cake in the Chiefs’ Mess aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). Rowden delivered his remarks during the pinning ceremony, where 17 Makin Island Sailors pinned on their anchors. Makin Island, the flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, is conducting integrated training with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit off the Southern California coast.
