160919-N-XM324-039 PHILIPPINE SEA (Sept. 19, 2016) Marines, assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), prepare to depart the well deck of the amphibious transport dock ship USS Green Bay (LPD 20) in a combat rubber raiding craft (CRRC) during a boat raid with a Mark VI patrol boat, operated by Coastal Riverine Squadron 2, during Valiant Shield 2016. Valiant Shield 2016 is a biennial, U.S.-only, field training exercise (FTX) with a focus on integration of joint training among U.S. forces. Green Bay, part of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group with embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, is participating in Valiant Shield in an effort to increase naval integration and joint capabilities in the event of conflict, contingency, or disaster relief.
