PACIFIC OCEAN (September 16, 2016) – Left to right, USS Makin Island (LHD 8) chaplain Lt. Cmdr. Aaron Carlton, Commanding Officer Capt. Mark Melson, Commander, Naval Surface Forces Vice Adm. Thomas S. Rowden, and Makin Island Command Master Chief Larry Lynch, render honors during the national anthem at the chief petty officer pinning ceremony aboard the amphibious assault ship. Rowden delivered remarks at the ceremony where 17 Makin Island Sailors pinned on their anchors.
