PHILIPPINE SEA (Sept. 23, 2016)
Capt. Wilson Marks, Commanding officer aboard the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville (CG 62), stands on the bridge wing as U.S. Navy vessels attached to the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group and Carrier Strike Group Five (CSG 5) transit the Philippine Sea in formation for a photo exercise during Valiant Shield 2016. Valiant Shield is a biennial, U.S. only, field-training exercise with a focus on integration of joint training among U.S. forces. This is the sixth exercise in the Valiant Shield series that began in 2006. Chancellorsville is on patrol with CSG 5 in the Philippine Sea supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
