PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti (Oct. 13, 2016) U.S. sailors with Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 28, from the USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), load bags of rice aboard a SH-60B Seahawk helicopter at Joint Task Force Matthew headquarters in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in order to support relief efforts. After six days of supply drop operations, JTF Matthew has delivered over 349,000 pounds of supplies utilizing various aircraft to provide the much-needed airlift capability. The task force, a U.S. Southern Command-directed team, is comprised of Marines, soldiers, sailors and airmen deployed to Port-au-Prince at the request of the government of Haiti to support the U.S. Agency for International Development's disaster relief operations in Haiti during the critical early stages after the island country was struck by Hurricane Matthew.
