Lt. Cmdr. Christopher Jack, right, a clinical nurse specialist assigned to Navy Trauma Training Center in Los Angeles, gives airway management instructions to Naval Medical Center San Diego nurses in the Medical Surgical Simulation Center at Naval Medical Center San Diego during a two-day pre-deployment trauma course. The advanced medical training manikins in the simulation center are computer-controlled, enabling them to simulate various symptoms such as variations in blood pressure and pulse rate, breathing abnormalities or cardiac arrest. This prepares the medical center nurses for the types of casualties they could encounter in combat.
