Cpl. Matthew A. Long, a selected winner of a Marine Corps wide logistical innovation competition, smiles for a photo on Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan, October 25, 2016. He designed a tear proof package containing a clotting and pain-killing agent to sit behind a Small Arms Protective Insert (SAPI). The package can treat for shock immediately when pierced. Long's innovation began after brainstorming ways to save Marines lives with hopes to minimize the time between injury and treatment. Long, from Moultrie, Georgia, is a motor transport mechanic with Motor Transport Company, Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
