Mines are laid during a training exercise circa 1942 at Camp Claiborne. A half million soldiers passed through this U.S. Army camp on 23,000 acres in Central Louisiana. Today the five sites at the camp are slated for cleanup by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Formerly Used Defense Sites Program. The land was earlier turned over by the Department of Defense to be managed by the U.S. Forest Service. Photo: www.campclaiborne.com
