A Kubasaki High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet models the uniform worn by the Marines who fought in the World War I during a Marine Corps birthday uniform pageant Nov. 8 aboard Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. It was during the Battle of Belleau Wood where the Marine Corps earned their famed nickname. The Marines fought with such force and ferocity that they were able to defeat two battle-hardened German Divisions, earning the nickname Teufelhunden, German for Devil Dog.
