USS MAKIN ISLAND, At Sea (November 8, 2016) – A Marine with Battalion Landing Team 1st Bn., 4th Marines, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, exits the back of an MV-22 Osprey, utilizing the fast-rope helicopter rope suspension technique (HRST) method during HRST training conducted aboard the USS Makin Island (LHD 8), while afloat in the Pacific Ocean, Nov. 8, 2016. The training was conducted to enhance the Marines abilities to conduct fast-rope operations, which is a skill they could use during operations taking place throughout the MEU’s Western Pacific 16-2 deployment to the Pacific and Central Commands’ areas of operation. The 11th MEU, part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility in support security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
