5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Dec. 4, 2016) Petty Officer 2nd Class Marcello Campo, from Sanignacio, Belize, assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 21, receives a certificate of advancement from USS Makin Island (LHD 8) Commanding Officer Capt. Mark A. Melson during a promotion ceremony in the ship’s hangar bay. HSC 21 is embarked aboard Makin Island, the flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, and is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
